How to: Linux PPTP VPN Setup Tutorial

STEP 1 Open Network Manager

From the desktop click on the Network Manager icon in the top right hand corner, click on VPN Connections and Configure VPN. If you can’t see the Network Manager icon, you can open network manager by clicking on System > Preferences > Network Configuration and then click on the VPN tab.

STEP 2 Add VPN connection

When the VPN Connection window is displayed, click on Add to create the new connection.

STEP 3 Choose the connection type

Ensure the connection type is PPTP and click Create

STEP 4 Enter VPN Account Details

For gateway enter one of the HideIPVPN server IP addresses sent to you by email. In the Connection name field, enter a name for new connection, ex. HideIPVPN. Enter your VPN username and VPN password sent to you by email.

STEP 5 Advanced Settings

Check the box labeled Use Point to Point encryption (PPTP) and then click OK.

Click on the security tab and select “128-bit (most secure)” option.

Check the following :

  1. Allow stateful encryption
  2. Allow BSD data compression
  3. Allow Deflate data compression
  4. Use TCP header compression
  5. Send PPP echo packets

Click OK again to save the VPN connection.

STEP 6 Connect to the VPN

Now start the VPN connection by clicking on the Network Manager Icon again, select VPN Connections and click on the new connection you have created.

How to: Smart DNS Xbox ONE tutorial

Now, that you IP is updated there is only one thing left to do. You need to change numbers of DNS servers on your device.

Setting up HideIPVPN SmartDNS service on Xbox One is very simple (please be advised, that you will get instant effect for all your devices by changing DNS servers on your home router). In case you still want to change it on your Xbox follow these instructions. Please excuse us quality of attached graphics. Xbox One currently does not support “screenshot” feature and in order to help you out we were forced to take actual photos of our TV.

1. Go to Xbox Home and then select System Settings.
2. Select Network Settings.

6. Enter Primary and Secondary DNS server address.

6. Go back to Xbox Home and you are done.

Remember!

Restart your Xbox One before using the service. We also advise you to consider setting up your SmartDNS service at your home router.

  1. Name your profile (connection to each server has to have different name), leave VPN type as default – PPTP,  and enter name or IP address of desired VPN server (as show in example). Afterwards click on “ Save ”
